The Watts Brothers have dropped an exclusive clip from their latest film,
BLACK DARUMA, an unsettling POV ‘Doll Horror’, fresh off its Video On
Demand (VOD) release to Found TV, a new platform for lovers of the the
found footage sub-genre.
Inspired by creepy character-driven, found-footage horror films like Creep
and Be My Cat, BLACK DARUMA is a unique take on the well worn trope
of the ‘cursed doll’. The plot follows Ryan (Richard Galloway), a struggling,
down-on-his-luck man in his mid-30s, whose desperation leads him to
purchase a Japanese “Luck Doll.” Far from solving his problems, the doll —
“Mr Lucky” — sets him on a path of escalating horror, as his life begins to
spiral out of control.
Only weeks after release, Black Daruma is already turning heads. In the r/
foundfootage Reddit thread, one user committed to reviewing all of Found
TV’s “31 Films in 31 Days” challenge, stated:
“This movie was coo-coo bananas. You strap yourself in for a by-thenumbers monkey’s paw story of granted wishes with dire consequences, and instead you get this… bizarre thing. I think this is a definite watch
for almost any fan of the genre”
Inspired by the review, the Watts Brothers filmed a live reaction to the
comment, racking up thousands of views across their social media and
YouTube. “We’re off to great start with the promotion” states producer
Fionn Watts, “with other platforms now wanting to license the film.”
“It’s amazing to see the film resonate with fans,” says Toby Watts, co-director of Black Daruma. “Moments like this show how quickly genre fans are finding and embracing the film. The fan-driven buzz is pushing Black
Daruma to wider audiences, and we’re thrilled to keep riding on this.”
With a cast including Richard Galloway (Wasteland), Louise O’Leary (Dead
Ringer), Julie Higginson (Red Dwarf), David Castleford (Hatched), Ross
Marshall, and Rowe David McClelland (The Zombie King), the film combines
a talented cast with the Watts Brothers’ tight and unnerving storytelling.
