Armed with only one word – Tenet – and fighting for the survival of the entire world, the Protagonist journeys through a twilight world of international espionage on a mission that will unfold in something beyond real time.
Christopher Nolan is back with some more movie Marmite for everyone which he spreads around with reckless abandon. Your either going to really like this movie, really hate this movie or come out scratching your head trying to figure out what just happened for the best part of 2 1/2 hours. One things for sure, it’s going to be discussed backwards and forwards in a lot of universtiy film studies classes for years to come.
The film itself does it’s best to keep you unsettled with its jarringly loud soundtrack and fast moving explanations, if you can hear them through the aforemtioned soundtrack that is. The action is excellent as you would expect from Nolan and the cast is simply terrific. So much so, that it won’t be until you’re well into the movie that you will realise that John David Washington‘s main character doesn’t actually have a name, that’s how swept up in it you get.
Hopefully people can now drop the ‘guy from Twilight’ tag on Robert Pattinson now as he has proved once again that he is much more taltented than to be labelled like that for the rest of his career. Elizabeth Debicki has yet another breakout role here which she grasps with both hands and really gets her teeth into, despite what the character goes through, it seems shes really enjoying herself here. The only negative in the casting is Kenneth Brannagh and his rent russian bad guy accent, which is almost comical at times and has a danger of detracting from what’s going on especially when you really need to be paying attention.
Overall? Well, we didn’t really ahve a clue what was going on most of the time. But whether we were travelling forwards or backwards it didn’t matter, the whole thing was great. If you liked Inception, you’ll love this if you didn’t then you may want to tread carefully as Christopher Nolan once again will mangle your brain. For the first major movie release during the pandemic, it may not bring the crowd out in their droves, but it will give them a lot to think about other than Coronavirus.
