James Nunn’s ‘One More Shot’ brings back the adrenaline-pumping action with Scott Adkins reprising his role as Navy SEAL, Jake Harris. Adkins looking like a Cosplay British Ryan Reynolds (Which is no bad thing) really has raised the bar since the original One Shot and really is becoming the flag bearer for the all out British action star. One More Shot cements his place firmly. Jason Statham better watch out he finally has some decent competition.
Following the attack on the black site in Poland, Navy SEAL Jake Harris is ordered to escort terrorist suspect Amin Mansur to Washington D.C for interrogation.
The FPS-style camera work gives a dynamic edge to the film, intensifying the experience. Facing off against Michael Jai White and Alexis Knapp, Harris battles through waves of adversaries in tight, superbly choreographed fight sequences that keep you on the edge of your seat. The showdown between Adkins and Jai White is a definite highlight upping the ante from their previous encounters in Undisputed 2, Accident Man and Triple Threat.
The pacing is relentless, with no wasted moments; it races forward like a high-octane level in a Call of Duty game, echoing the intensity of the ‘No Russian’ mission from Modern Warfare 2 without the distressing civilian casualties. While the action and fights are commendable, the absence of unnecessary violence against civilians is appreciated. However, there is still plenty of heads arms and legs getting battered alongside more bullets fired and head shots delivered than you can shake a stick at. It makes Hot Shots Part Deux pale into insignificance by comparison.
‘One More Shot’ sets the stage for a potential sequel, leaving audiences eager for more. For fans of the first installment, this sequel packs a punch and delivers a thrill ride, though there might be room for more depth in character development and storyline to elevate it further. Nevertheless, it’s a worthy continuation that promises further excitement if another sequel follows suit.
One More Shot releases on Sky Cinema from 12th January
