The latest DC Animated fare is upon us and it turns it’s attention away from Batman, to Catwoman in Catwoman: Hunted. With Elizabeth Gilles (Dynasty) taking up the mantle of the feline femme fatale, she is joined by Stephanie Beatriz (Brooklyn Nine Nine, In The Heights) as Batwoman for a all female dynamic duo taking on a plethora of enemies.
Catwoman’s attempt to steal a priceless jewel puts her squarely in the cross-hairs of a powerful consortium of villains, Interpol and Batwoman.
Catwoman: Hunted is a nice change of pace for the DC Animated movies, moving away from primarily Batman and Superman led movies to one featuring one of Batmans more popular foes. Elizabeth Gilles Catwoman is a role she couldn’t be more suited for, so much so, it would be really a treat if at some point we get to see her reprise the role in a live action version.
Catwoman: Hunted, is the most anime leaning of all the previous DCs with the typical female tropes shovelled in there. From the big eyes to the pneumatic figures, at time proceedings become somewhat of a DC fans wet dream, none more so when Catwoman decides to take a bath while Batwoman watches on. Director Shinsuke Terasawa maybe knows what he thinks his key audience want to watch.
Where Catwoman: Hunted does excel though is the sheer fun and adventure that this caper movie turns out to be, with a sublime jazz soundtrack to compliment it, Catwoman: Hunted ultimately is hugely enjoyable mainly because of the eclectic voice cast led by Gilles. The story fizzes on from one action sequence to action sequence, culminating in a showdown with a well known character that encapsulates the fun of the entire proceedings.
The extras are fairly slim with a couple of makings of that really dont give you enough of Ms Gilles and Beatriz, not even a trailer of the next offering from DC Animated either. The package as a whole is good but not great, but the film, which is what you came for is a huge amount of fun.
Catwoman: Hunted, is set for release on Blu-ray, DVD and Blu-ray Steelbook on 7th February 2022 and on Digital Download on the 8th February 2022.
