5. House At The End Of The Street

(2012 – Mark Tonderai) NETFLIX TRAILER

There are only a couple of choices for Ms Lawrence when it comes to thrillers/chillers/pyscological horror type movies. There’s Mother and House At The End Of The Street. We here at Screen One, flat out didn’t enjoy Mother at all, so we are left with this choice and while it’s not very good let’s be honest, it’s an ok teen horror if you don’t expect much, but it does have Elisabeth Shue in it, so thats a huge bonus.

A mother and daughter move to a new town and find themselves living next door to a house where a young girl murdered her parents. When the daughter befriends the surviving son, she learns the story is far from over.

4. Passengers

(2016 – Morten Tyldum) NETFLIX TRAILER

Lawrence and Pratt on screen together, Sci-Fi romance of sorts. Two of the hottest stars in the universe together. What more do you require? If you can get past the premise of Pratt’s character essentially murdering Lawrence, then there’s a lot to enjoy here, with some really creative visuals and some great action sequences.

A spacecraft traveling to a distant colony planet and transporting thousands of people has a malfunction in its sleep chambers. As a result, two passengers are awakened 90 years early.

3. The Hunger Games

(2012 – Gary Ross) NOWTV TRAILER

Despite being a shameless Battle Royale/Running Man rip off (BTW make sure you check out both of those movies when you get the chance if you haven’t already). The Hunger Games is actually good old fashioned blockbuster fun. We could have cheated and added the entire series, but much like the next choice you have to settle on one and in this series, the first is the best of the series. The Hunger Games comes off the rails when the finale was divided into two films in a shameless cash in (Following the success of Twilight doing it), but the first has a fresh faced, hugely charasmatic Lawrence, running around, shooting, running, screaming and being a thorn in Donald Sutherlands side. Always worth a watch every so often.

Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which “Tributes” must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. The world will be watching.

2. X-Men: Days Of Future Past

(2014 – Bryan Singer) DISNEY+ TRAILER

Just like the last choice, Jennifer Lawrence is in many of the X-Men movies, so instead of cheating and picking all of them, we simply have to go for Days Of Future Past and in particular the Rogue Cut, both versions are available on Disney+ however, the Rogue Cut just feels that much more like the complete experience. With the film centering around Lawrence’s Mystique and her actions causing a dark future where the X-Men all perish due to the creation of the Sentinels by Peter Dinklage’s Trask, sends Wolverine on a mission to rectify things before they happen. The X-Men series peaked with this one and after X2 it’s probably the best of the series. Less said about Dark Phoenix the better.

TO SAVE THE FUTURE, THEY MUST ALTER THE PAST

The ultimate X-Men ensemble fights a war for the survival of the species across two time periods as they join forces with their younger selves in an epic battle that must change the past – to save our future.

1. Winter’s Bone

(2010 – Debra Granik) NETFLIX, ARROW Channel TRAILER

To date this is still Jennifer’s best ever on screen performance. Part drama, part mystery, but totally bleak, Winter’s Bone isn’t the easiest of watches. However Jennifer Lawrence is. An outstanding perfomance from the then young star in a compelling movie that keepos you hanging until the films final moments. If you haven’t seen it, then this is one that deserves to be watched as soon as you can.

17 year-old Ree Dolly sets out to track down her father, who put their house up for his bail bond and then disappeared. If she fails, Ree and her family will be turned out into the Ozark woods. Challenging her outlaw kin’s code of silence and risking her life, Ree hacks through the lies, evasions and threats offered up by her relatives and begins to piece together the truth.
