Those Damn Crows have arrived. God Shaped Hole, the brand-new album from the Welsh rockers, takes their previous release Inhale/Exhale, injects it with some nitrous oxide, cranks the volume up to 10, and soars to new heights. Their most mature release yet, this record delivers a sonic onslaught of top-tier tunes—10 unrelenting instant Crow classics. It’s a veritable relentless riff fest from start to finish.
From the opening moments of Dancing With the Enemy, a stadium-sized banger that hits your eardrums like a freight train, to the sombre closing of the acoustic epic Still, the Crows just know how to hit the gas and never let up.
God Shaped Hole is simply a rock odyssey with no weak links. If you’ve heard any of the singles from the album (Let’s Go Psycho, Glass Heart, No Surrender, the aforementioned Still, and the outstanding Dreaming), you might think you know what to expect. But you’d be wrong—dead wrong. This album surprises at every turn. Take Fake, for instance, which channels a real Alter Bridge-inspired vibe, while Turn It Around delivers yet another massive anthem that’s destined to bring down the house when they hit the road again later this year.
And then there’s Spit & Choke—if this one doesn’t get you out of your seat, horns in the air, then check your pulse. It’s also a showcase for Ronnie Huxford’s nuclear energy on the drums. He doesn’t just play them—he beats the living daylights out of them with an unbridled fury that creates the pounding heart of the Crows throughout the album.

But the undisputed standout here is the powerhouse, near-masterpiece that is The Night Train. Shane Greenhall’s vocals have often been compared to Eddie Vedder’s, but that comparison sells both of them short. Greenhall’s passion and raw energy define his own space among rock’s finest vocalists. Whether it’s the earth-shaking power of a riff-driven anthem or the tender delicacy of a ballad like Still, Greenhall delivers with undeniable charisma.
Overall, God Shaped Hole is a playlist of future fan favourites. It’s nothing short of a masterclass in modern rock album writing and performance. As we’ve previously written, 2025 is shaping up to be a very big year for the boys from Bridgend—and God Shaped Hole is just the beginning.
