After Damien’s first nanny hangs herself, Father Brennan (Patrick Troughton) warns Robert that Damien will kill Katherine’s unborn child. Shortly thereafter, Brennan dies and Katherine miscarries when Damien pushes her off a balcony. As more people around Damien die, Robert investigates Damien’s background and realizes his adopted son may be the Antichrist.
Released 6th June 1976.
Yesterday Zombies, today it’s the turn of the Son of Satan, Damien. Not a particularly gory movie, this one injects a sense of dread and terror as the coming apocalypse could happen with Satan’s hordes taking over the world. The first in the trilogy directed by Richard Donner (Yes the man who gave us The goonies, Superman and Lethal Weapon among others) puts together a horror classic. It has all the usual tropes, but this has the added bonus of a truly A-List cast. From Gregory Peck and Lee Remick, to David Warner, Billie Whitelaw (Who is the most terrifying on screen nanny of them all) to former Doctor Who Patrick Troughton. The trilogy is great with Sam Neill as the adult Damien in the final movie of the story. A fourth film, “The Awakening” which was a remake/reboot of sorts with a gender twist ( a young girl named Delia instead) isn’t worth checking out. Just stick with the first three starting tonight with the original.
