Screen One’s 10 Most Anticpated Films Of 2023

10. Cocaine Bear – 24th Feb

After a 500-pound black bear consumes a significant amount of cocaine and embarks on a drug-fueled rampage, an eccentric gathering of cops, criminals, tourists, and teenagers assemble in a Georgia forest.

If the trailer is anything to go by, this will be a hilarious, chaotic and downright nutty bit of movie nonsense. Based on a true story, which in itself is crazy. This could be one of the sleepr hits of 2023.

9. Renfield14th April

Renfield, the tortured aide to his narcissistic boss, Dracula, is forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding. However, after centuries of servitude, he’s ready to see if there’s a life outside the shadow of the Prince of Darkness.

Nicolas Cage as Dracula? Count us in. A horror comedy that will likely be a small hit outside of the big movies and drops jsut before the summer blockbusters, this should be a riotous laugh a minute bit of fun.

8. Scream VI10th March

Four survivors of the original Ghostface killings attempt leave Woodsboro behind for a fresh start.

Scream finally ventures outside of it’s usual locale of Woodsboro and this time adds Samara Weaving & Hayden Panettiere. The trailer looks espcecially tense, Scream was a great re-boot for the series and this looks like it’s going to be jsut as good.

7. Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 35th May

Peter Quill (Chris Pratt) is “still reeling from the loss of Gamora”. However, he “must rally his team around him to defend the universe along with protecting one of their own.

Our Superhero movie pick of the year and there were a lot to choose from. But this one centres around Rocket and his origins, so as long as he’s stealing more body parts, it’s got our vote. Quantamania might have the more important storyline devlopments (Kang’s arrival) but James Gunn’s final part to his trilogy is the one we’d rather see.

6. Creed III3rd March

Still dominating the boxing world, Adonis Creed is thriving in his career and family life. When Damian, a childhood friend and former boxing prodigy resurfaces after serving time in prison, he’s eager to prove that he deserves his shot in the ring. The face-off between former friends is more than just a fight. To settle the score, Adonis must put his future on the line to battle Damian — a fighter who has nothing to lose.

The latest installement of Creed will the first one not to feature Sylvester Stallone, so it’ll be interesting to see how the story develops without the Itallian Stallion, or if he’s been killed off. Jonathan Majors, who’s seemingly everywhere this year is the big bad and it looks like a rough time for Adonis.

5. HavocTBA 2023

The story is set after a drug deal gone wrong, when a bruised detective must fight his way through a criminal underworld to rescue a politician’s estranged son, while unraveling a deep web of corruption and conspiracy that ensnares his entire city.

Gareth (The Raid) Evans, Tom Hardy… This is going to be a banger! Netflix are yet to confirm the exact date, but Hardy has been back in the gym honing his MMA skills, so you can expect Gareth Evans trademark violent violence.

4. Oppenheimer 21st July

Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer works with a team of scientists during the Manhattan Project, leading to the development of the atomic bomb.

Christopher Nolan is back, this time with another war related movie (After Dunkirk). Of the creation of the Atomic Bomb. As you would expect the trailer looks tense and Nolan is an expert in taut thrillers, so we expect yet another brilliant opus from him.

3. John Wick 424th March

With the price on his head ever increasing, legendary hit man John Wick takes his fight against the High Table global as he seeks out the most powerful players in the underworld, from New York to Paris to Japan to Berlin.

Originally parts 4 & 5 were meant to be filmed back to back, however due to COVID complications that hasn’t happened and waiting on the box office returns from chapter 4 will depend on whether we get Chapter 5. Still the first 3 John Wicks were incredible and we are hoping that this one will be no different.

2. Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One14th July

The seventh and first part of the final entry in the Mission: Impossible series, Dead Reckoning once again stars Tom Cruise as Ethan Hunt.

What is wrong with Tom Cruise? The man seriously cannot make a film without and featuring some kind of ridiculously stupid stunt that could get him killed and Dead Reckoning is no different. But that makes us all want to watch though doesn’t it?

1. Ghostbusters: Firehouse20th Dec

This is currently the working title, but Firehouse would suggest that Jason Reitman will be following up on that post credit scene in Afterlife for the basis of the next installement of Ghostbusters.

There is very little we know about the plot and cast currently, but needless to say, we’re excited for the continuation of the story. Whether the old guard will be back, or if it’s the young crew from Afterlife. We can’t wait to see what happens.
